The staff of Federici & Akin, P.A. has designed and rehabilitated numerous roadways and infrastructure systems through State Aid and County Aid Funding Sources.  We are very familiar with the funding systems and state aid agreements, application process and reimbursements.  Our engineering resources include surveying, design, environmental, permitting, cost estimating & value engineering, preparation of contract documents, bid phase services, construction management and reimbursements.
Our transportation engineering staff has years of experience and established working relationships with various County and has State Agencies such as the Division and Local Government Services (Local Aid), Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA), New Jersey Highway Authority (NJHA), and the Engineering Departments for the Counties of Gloucester, Camden,  Salem, Cumberland and Atlantic, all in New Jersey.

Milling, resurfacing, widening, guide rail, drainage, including grading design, drainage, signage, striping, milling and resurfacing limits, and traffic control.  Project involved major design issues due to wetlands and stream crossings along large portions of the roadway.

Resurfacing and Drainage Improvements to East Avenue, Borough of Swedesboro
Milling, resurfacing, and the installation of a network of sub-base outlet drainage structures, under drains, and interconnections to private sump pump discharge lines that drained into the street.

Cumberland County
Project for Cumberland County College to facilitate expansion of parking lots and on-site roadways which were also designed by F&A, project consisted of improvements to 2,000 l.f. of roadway, including widening of College Drive to provide left-turn storage lanes, striping, grading and profiles, drainage, and traffic control, all in accordance with NJDOT Design Manual, NJDOT Standard Specifications, AASHTO, and MUTCD

Resurfacing and Safety Improvements to Woodstown Road (CR No. 605)
Gloucester Co.
Federal Aid project for rehabilitation and safety improvements to 1.60 miles of roadway in Gloucester County, including grading design, drainage, signage, striping, milling and resurfacing limits, and traffic control.  Project involved major design rehabilitation issues due to existing concrete surface course below HMA.

Reconstruction of Bayshore Road (C.R. 603);
Cape May County
Local Aid project for Reconstruction of 1.7 km of Bayshore Road (C.R. 603) from Route 47 to Roosevelt Boulevard in Middle Township for Cape May County, plan addressed several safety issues including instability of the asphalt surface caused by an old concrete sub base, ponding problems from poor drainage and limited sight distance at the intersection of Bayshore Road and Norbury’s Landing Road.  The project was designed in metric units.  Project required cross-sections, profiles, and Estimate/Distribution of Quantities.

Design of Gloucester County road and drainage improvements in Woolwich Twp., NJ, responsibilities included base mapping, grading, profiles, cross sections, and stormwater drainage system in accordance with NJDOT Design Manual, AASHTO, and MUTCD.

Reconstruction and Widening of Berlin-Cross Keys Road;
Camden County PWD
County Aid project for reconstruction and widening of 1000 l.f. section of road at the border of Gloucester and Camden Counties, for the County of Gloucester, involved surveying, design, grading, drainage, general property mapping, storm management of new impervious areas, cross-sections, profiles, pavement design, utility relocation, driveway adjustment, community involvement for parcel acquisition, all in accordance with NJDOT Design Manual, AASHTO, and MUTCD

Improvements to Southbound Milepost 13.1, Garden State Parkway;
NJ Highway Authority
Emergency design contract to improve ramp geometry to eliminate dangerous right-hand merge on ramp with inadequate length, coordinated survey, mapping, design, permitting, and report to NJHA; multiple deaths at ramp forced NJHA to contract for immediate ramp design, including profile, cross-sections, earthwork analysis, quantities, and contract specifications. Project was surveyed, designed, permitted, and ready for public advertisement within 4 months of authorization

Mount Ephraim
NJDOT Local Aid Project for resurfacing of 0.65 miles of roadway, including resurfacing, base course reconstruction, replacement of curb, sidewalk, handicap ramps, and driveways, responsible for project financing through NJDOT, design of construction plans, cross sections, interconnection at Conrail crossing and NJ State Highway 168, traffic control plan, all in accordance with NJDOT, AASHTO, and MUTCD regulations, responsible for construction management and inspection
1996
Atlantic City Service Area, M.P. 41.0, Garden State Parkway;
NJHA
New Jersey Highway Authority’s $12.5 million upgrade to service area and interchanges at Atlantic City Service Area, responsible for the upgrade and design of the existing service area and unsafe ramps at this interchange; project included extensive design of ramp improvements to increase length and develop better geometry, full coordination between Town of Galloway, NJHA, and Emergency Management regarding access through service area, major reengineering involved in parking lot circulation, external bypass ramps, bus parking, and safe access to restaurant and gas station, and an extensive storm water management plan, including storm sewer pipes, swales, detention basins and other water quality facilities.  The new drainage system met standards required by CAFRA Division of the NJDEP and the Pinelands Commission.
